These are some of the shoes I want for fall. Most are from Aldo, which is nice. I am probably going to go and buy the last pair with the buckle next paycheck. It's funny, I wanted black booties with a heavy heel and a buckle and then I just kind of stumbled upon them at the all today. I love it when that happens.

Also, I am going to try to wear only neutrals for fall and winter. I will try to do colour only in my accessories. This means I need a new purple scarf and some amazing emerald green shoes. I am also going to wear more beige because I just realized that I love it. And I need more pants. I will be making a trip to VV soon in order to build up my wardrobe and I have very few neutral toned clothes.

I am having a huge freaking problem not spending big dollars on beautiful quilting fabric. Look at this stuff!

If you are as big of a suck for bright coloured fabric and like to dream of potential sewing projects then you should check out Anna Maria Horner's blog. She designs fabric and make amazing things and all her kids are dressed in beautiful, colourful homemade clothes.

So basically my goals are to sew more, be more colourful, and wear homemade clothes or something.

Rainy Days

It is so cold and damp and miserable out and leaving the house is the last thing I want to do.

What I do want to do is be cozy and curl up with a cup of apricot mango tea and my new obsession The Talented Mr. Ripley. I had no idea it was a book until recently. Actually, it is the first book in a series about Mr. Ripley. I am probably going to go through the whole series this week if the weather doesn't improve.

I would also like to try this recipe for Corn Chowder. It sounds like the ultimate comfort food. How amazing does this look?!

Using the iPhone app Hipstamatic, here is a quick look at some of the crap around my apartment.

I crafted these flags out of some twine and colourful sheet wrap with letters printed all over it.

I am pretty sure that if I didn't have roommates to object, I would cover all empty wall space with these.

Kaari already made a similar post about globes but I couldn't help myself. I think we are going to have a craft night where we will decoupage globes that we will purchase at Value Village or something.

Originally we found these globes on Design Sponge and it was love at first sight. We decided to try to make them instead of buying them because we don't exactly have $300 to spend on such things.

I love this butterfly globe but I might do moths instead.

I also really want to make some paper garlands for the living room and dining. I think they would look nice on our chandelier type light fixture in the dining room.

My bedroom is at the point of such complete disarray that there is a path from my door to my bed and the rest of the floor is no longer visible. I have boxes for packing leaning against my dresser and blocking my closet so i am living with the small selection of clothes that are reachable. I should probably do some laundry. Or pack.

While procrastinating I have realized that there are a lot of things I own that I would not like to bring with me. Small things that are creating clutter that I do not want in my new space. I imagine that I will have to pack these up and have my dad store them somewhere because he would never let me throw them out.

I am going to have to go through my craft supplies and weed out some of the stuff I have been collecting for years for "future projects" that are never going to happen. I will also need to find a new storage solution for my beads because the old laundry basket they are stored in now is ugly and inconvenient.

I will be leaving some books behind. A table. A rotary dial phone. My curtains with Superman on them won't be coming either. I will purge my closet, again. Get rid of some shoes. Get rid of some jewellery.

It is after 1pm and I am still in my nightgown. I should get cracking.

As someone who spends a lot of time in my bedroom, especially since I got a laptop, I am spending HUGE amounts of time deciding how I want it to look. Everyone keeps reminding me that I only signed a one year lease but the fact of the matter is that I am going to be spending time every single day for the next year in this place. I need it to be comfortable and make me happy. If I think of it only as a temporary dwelling then I am never going to feel completely comfortable there.

I love my current bedroom, no question, but it is a headache and a half. The walls are painted in-your-face green, the closet is small so my clothes live on the floor, there are bins of craft supplies in every available space, and I have a jewellery storage problem. In my new place I will have a much bigger closet in my bedroom, a bigger bedroom, closets galore for other storage and organization, and my books and other things will be able to live in the common areas. I will finally have a room for sleeping that won't be cluttered by THINGS. I still plan on spending lots of time in my bedroom but I won't feel cramped and claustrophobic, instead I will feel relaxed and serene.

I am leaning towards light grey walls and white bedding. I have a very modern looking silver/grey bed frame and matching dresser that will fit in well. I also have many cool, small things that get lost in my current room but will shine in the new one. I'm excited because all my stuff works for this colour scheme and all I require is paint and a new duvet cover. I also have my eye on a beautiful knit lavender, silver, and grey throw for the end of my bed.

I also saw some inexpensive white furry rugs on sale in some flyer. I was thinking those would be nice on either side of the bed so I am not stepping on a cold floor in the morning.

Although my colour scheme is quite cool, the textures and personality in the room will keep if comfy. I also would like to make myself some sheer white curtain panels that I would edge with pom-pom trim like these ones from Anthropologie. I would use a different colour of pom-pom though, maybe dark lavender.

And I will be putting this rhino above my headboard. I feel like it would be a nice touch.

My new kitchen!

Tonight my two new roommates and I are going to go sign the lease for our new place!

I am 23, working full time, and not in school so I have no excuse to still be mooching off my father. Time to grow up! I am still quite optimistic, especially since this place seems like it is meant to be.

After finishing our coffee one evening at Starbucks a couple of weeks ago, Jeni and Kaari and I decided to go for a stroll. We had often talked about how nice it would be to live in the same building together but to be able to have enough personal space so we didn't have to be around each other all the time. We decided that renting a house would be ideal, preferably one in the Osborne Village area.
A week later Jeni tells Kaari and I that her mom's friend has a suite for rent in a house one street east of Osborne, just south of River. We go take a look, and although it is a bit smaller than what we had in mind, there is plenty of space, a walk-in pantry (drool!), a laundry room with washer and dryer, and a small balcony. We weren't sold right away but after a little chit chat we realized we would be stupid to turn it down. Posession date is November 1st! That is only three weeks away!!!

Since it is the first place that we get to decorate they way we want from top to bottom we are gathering all ideas we can. We are going with a retro, antique furniture situation. We want it kind of quirky, kind of classic. I have been spending most of my energy on two rooms: the kitchen and my bedroom.

For the kitchen I am working on convincing the other two that a Cath Kidston-esque colour scheme would be amazing. Think white, robin's egg blue, and red accents!

I mostly want a room that has bright, friendly colours and that makes people happy and want to cook real food and not just ramen noodles every night. Some other pictures I find inspiring for the kitchen:

The problem that I always have is that I love so many styles and ideas and can never pick and focus on any one. I don't want this place to be some ridiculous mash-up that gives me a headache.

I have a new addiction: Food blogs!

I love reading blogs about all sorts of things from how to be a squatter in London, to home decor, to blogs about boys, to fashion blogs. I read blogs for hours on end, it's all I do, but right now I am BIG TIME LOVING the food blog. Blogs with recipes, pictures, stories surrounding the theme of food.

Here is a list of a few of my favorites. I assure you, they are worth looking further into.

What Katie Ate. She is an amazing photographer who posts the most awesome sounding recipes.

Sunday Suppers. "Sunday Suppers are class-cooking-dining experiences, pairing friends and food. The classes are held in a waterfront loft in Brooklyn, NY and are taught by local Chefs."

The Gluttony. This guy rates restaurants in and around LA. He takes pictures of his food, usually burgers or steak. He also travels a bit and rates restaurants in different cities.

They Draw and Cook. This blog features drawn recipes submitted by artists and illustrators. Very cute.

So basically my bookmarks folder is crammed with links to recipes I need to try. Oh! And i have started collecting cook books and discovered my super intense passion for brussel sprouts.

I love how recipes are something you share with friends and family. So cheesy...

Alright. It's been a while and most of you have probably moved on, I know I would have.

I have been spending my time enjoying the summer by drinking sangria and riding my bike and getting a horribly large number of mosquito bites. I counted 119 mosquito bites on my left leg alone and then I was so distraught that I put my pants back on and had a glass of wine.

Some pals and I have decided to be tourists in our own city and have so far been to the Forks, and the Zoo, and plan on making trips to many other places that we haven't seen since school field trips. We also had a chance to see the Queen while she was here for 6 hours. She had a good hat.

In other news, I am vaguely looking for new retailers of my jewellery. To be honest I have slowed down a lot with the jewellery making because the lack of space is making it really hard to produce anything that I would be proud to sell BUT that is not to say that I have given up. I am just laying dormant until I am ready to spring my creations on the world and POW no one will be expecting it. POW! BAM!!

For my birthday last year Naomi bought me an amazing origami kit with complex instructions and beautiful paper that I love love LOVE. I have always been a fan of origami because I love figuring out the shapes and dissecting the pieces until I have them perfect. I could spend hours folding the paper until I have a wonderful menagerie of fantastical animals and figures to perch on every book shelf and in every nook. As you can imagine, I almost cried out in delight when upon opening my new issue of Nylon I spotted a line of jewellery that is all made to look like origami! Please meet Origami Jewellery!

Unfortunately I can't find anywhere that ships this stuff to Canada so I might be calling in some favours from far off friends or relatives. Or maybe I can find a depot in the states that will receive it for me...

I have exciting but not-so-recent news: My rings are now being sold in two hair salons! Tonic Hair Salon and Spa at 598 Corydon Ave. and Pingk Hair Care Etc. at 717 Osborne St. So far I am finding my jewellery well received by the clientele at both salons and I am interested to see where opportunity takes me.

In other new I am obsessed with nude colour palettes and may be looking at the end of my year-long boycott of pants.

I really want slacks. Lots of pairs in grey and black and khaki and maybe a metallic... I am having a hard time finding a pair that fits me right and am wondering if making my own pair is the best route. Of course, my concern with opting to make my own pair is that I say I will do it but it will be one of those things that gets pushed aside...

I have also decided that I am going to start walking to and from work. I need to not feel so uncomfortable that I need to wear legging all summer, it's not cute as a uniform and it does not go with the summer look I have in my head. Plus I need to get healthy, which is why I am going to pull out our old fruit juicer and make myself some ( i hope ) palatable concoctions.

After being in Toronto for the weekend and experiencing some wonderful gastronomic delights I was intent of trying new places to eat here in Winnipeg. As someone who loves sweets, I was delighted to try Eat Bistro a few weeks ago and I easily devoured soup, fries, dip, tea, and a beautiful Chai and Strawberry Creme Brulee. This week I will also be trying a different restaurant and one of the newest restaurant additions to Osborne Village, Kawaii Crepe. I will also try to fit in some Christmas shopping as it is my last day off before the 25th.

Speaking of days off, I am also off work tomorrow and plan to create new things with my new beads from Toronto. I went a little crazy with the bead shopping and by the end of the shopping day my shoulder was red and sore and my arm felt like it was going to fall off. Anyway, stay tuned for some new pieces because beading is all I'm going to be doing when it's this cold out.

I also have to share with you the fact that I am so beyond excited about fall. I am all about the Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks, and I am going to start making my delish pumpkin scones with pumpkin butter soon. Next week is freaking October! I am kind of terrified at how fast the year has gone by, because January honestly feels like last week, and what do I have to show for it?! I need to get crack-a-lackin' and get to work!

I have decided to properly take a year off school to get some things done. I would like to take a metalsmithing course. I would like to take an art class at the art gallery. I would like to dedicate more time to me jewelry because my successes are only as big as the time and effort I put into them. I would like to paint my bedroom. I would like to sew new pillow shams and a duvet cover. I would like to start and finish a new knitting project because I was a loser and didn't actually knit at knitting club last year. I would like to learn to make my own clothes. I would like to take in more IMAX movies, solo. You know, the usual.

So I am currently working on some new stuff for Chi Chi Chicks. It will be very different from the stuff at Lune Vintage and will go a lot better with the rings I currently have at Chi Chi. It's going to take some time and lots more supplies because it will be loads of wire wrapping and building. Stay tuned for pictures!

I just finished adding some new things to etsy, some very flowery and fun for summer things!

There are some bracelets and some necklaces that I have been slaving over for the past while.

Mostly it took me so long because I had all these vintage plastic and metal and enamel flowers that I really wanted to use and I was having a hard time making them look right. So this is their internet debut! I am especially in love with the bracelets and I have worn mine out a few times and the reaction is super positive so I am very excited.

If you are located in Winnipeg I recently dropped off some bracelets like these as well as some earrings and a necklace at Lune Vintage so you should probably go check those out too.

In other news I am very excited because I am running away to Montreal in July to see the band Beirut. I am mildly obsessed with Zach Condon and am very much looking forward to seeing him in action.

Not that I actually went anywhere, I just took a little bit of a hiatus.

I worked so hard on getting stock made for a craft sale I did at the beginning of March that I made myself a little crazy. But now I have lots of stock for Etsy, and some stock for Lune Vintage and I am getting back to work!

My Etsy shop is FINALLY up and running!!!

Over the next few days I will be adding to my Etsy shop adding a few things at a time. The shop isn't all beautiful yet, I am still working on getting it to that point.

Soooo, I officially have jewelry for sale at Chi Chi Chicks, 515 Osborne Street South, which is very exciting. I will post some pictures of the pieces for sale there soon, there are necklaces and rings. I am also currently working on pieces to bring to H.p. Tergesen & Sons in Gimli this weekend and a line of pieces leaning more towards retro vintage with enamel flowers and pastel lucite beads and stuff for Lune Vintage (heads up Jill), a shop at 453 Rathgar Ave just off of Osborne. I am also still getting things ready for my soon to be Etsy shop as it is still kind of a non-shop right now. Basically what I am saying is stay tuned, because things are just getting exciting.

Okay, so I have two pictures of the rings I have been working on, I am working with a shit camera so I got too frustrated to take any more pictures, plus I still have a crazy lack of stock in terms of necklaces and bracelets.

I am meeting with a store owner on Thursday the 19th and need to have more stock to present by then. I need to get crackin'!

I am super excited! I am going to be selling my jewelry at Chi Chi Chicks at 515 Osborne Street!
So I Have been working hard on building up stock for that, and then I am doing a craft sale thing on March 7th, and I am also really working hard on getting stuff ready for an Etsy store. In short I have been very busy. Unfortunately I have no pictures of it right now, but I will very soon!

I am also hoping to make some simple totes out of cool vintage fabric with some nice trim which means that I might want to look into getting some custom tags made.

I also need to get some business cards made up, which I am totally lost on but need really soon.

I also took some time out yesterday to buy a couple new dresses:

I am obviously doing a really fantastic job at keeping on top of this blog, but it's a new years so I am going to make a big effort. I now have more time, I am not in school now, and I only have one job, which is a nice change.

Now that I have spare time I can start to do things like sew and make jewelry again! Last night, at 2am, I made a skirt because I had nothing to wear to work today. I am quite pleased with how it turned out, plus I am in love with the fabric, I found it in the basement of Mitchell's with all the other fantastic retro fabric. I bought enough of this stuff to make a bag as well.

I have recently had a crazy itch to spend money. Help.

I haven't had this blog for very long but I already suck at keeping on top of things, but I am going to blame my absence on the fact that I hand made my Hallowe'en costume all last week.

I went as Bjork in her swan dress, and all in all it was pretty successful. The night was a big success in general, I definitely felt it the next day, and I spent the whole day in my pj's and I watched All About Eve and ate leftover candy. I also managed to screw up my back by yawning too vigorously or something, it still hurts like hell.

We got our pumpkins! I can't wait to carve them with spooky things!

In August I had some people over for a Prom themed event and I hung up disco balls all over the yard. I have opted to keep them up until they start to look gross because on sunny days they look really magical and reflect specks of light into the house and on the walls. I think that they will look really lovely in the winter when everything is white, if they last until then.

And because I am excited about how cozy they are, these are my new mukluks with my new-ish blue tights!

Today was kind of one of those lazy days where just wanted to stay home and

drink tea but that really wasn't in the cards. I worked a couple hours at the antique mall, which was unusually warm and dreamed about getting home and continuing my new knitting project. I'll post a picture of the project once it is finished.

I also am in love with Fleet Foxes right now.
